About the Fund
The Detroit Firemen's Fund Association was founded in 1866 for the purpose of providing aid to the widows of fallen fire fighters.
As members of the Fund, we are there to provide assistance and support to families during their time of need. It is during these difficult times, that we are there to help.
Our membership is comprised of both active and retired fire fighters, and is supported by membership dues, fund raisers, and other monetary donations by concerned patrons in our community.
We also volunteer our time with community activities. Our special Clown Team and Thrill Team provide entertainment for the community and have put a smile on children's faces when they are ill or recovering from serious injuries or burns.
Fire Fighters are a special breed, they don't preach the life of brotherhood they live it.
Sincerely,
The Board of Trustees
Kim Fett - Trustee

By now everyone has the bad information about the Firemen's Fund Board of Trustees raising all members dues by 0.25% across the board. Active, Retired, and 50-year members pay checks beginning October 1, 2009 will reflect this increase.
The Fund had an actuarial done and this seemed to be the most painless, effective way to put the Firemen's Fund back in good fiscal shape.
Some of the reasons for the Fund falling into this position are: #1 The Fund losing 19% (over 1 million dollars) of its portfolio in the Market Collapse #2 The Department only hiring 1 new class of firefighters in the past 8 years has kept us from receiving any new monies. #3 The most costly of all is the retirement payouts and no new firefighters monies to replace them.
I hope this will better explain to you a bit more of what the Fund is going through right now. If you have any questions or wish to contact me you can e-mail @ dfdkim@sbcglobal.net
I will update you with future events and information in a timely manner. 10/05/09
